Appreciate local business and shop local

End of year is the time we come together and give thanks for those who are important to us. Everyone seems a little nicer and we take the time to show more appreciation than we do the rest of the year. That’s why this is the perfect time to thank a local business.

Reasons to Appreciate Local Business

Shopping opportunities are a big draw for tourists and day trippers, especially if you have a quaint Main Street. Without unique shopping experiences people are less likely to come and visit.

Shops pay taxes. Your local shopkeeper gives back a portion of revenue in local taxes. These taxes help pay for local police or sheriffs, firefighters, schools, and more.

Local business people support local athletic teams and contribute to PTAs and schools through sponsorships. They give to the community because they understand we all need each other.

Local store owners take the time to explain what they sell and help us understand how to use it. If you want to take up a new hobby, shop local. The person at that store will help you embrace your new hobby and ensure you have what you need and the know how behind it. A big box store doesn’t have the expertise or the time to help go through every step of your new undertaking.

Local stores provide a shopping experience and ambiance. There’s a flavor to them. Walk into a box store and it’s the same as the ones in neighboring towns.

Local stores keep your town alive. Driving down Main Street and seeing soaped up windows on vacant storefronts tells a story about the prosperity of your town. Who wants to invest somewhere that looks like the economy is circling the drain?

Local shops flavor the town you live in. These stores create memories by hosting events, providing services, and being part of the community. Even after you move away, you think about that favorite bistro or ice cream store. Local stores become the town in your memory.

Have a happy holiday and don’t forget to thank your local merchants. They bring so much to the community.
