Give dad the gift of local

Dads may not always be big shoppers but most of them probably appreciate working hard and showing pride in their hometown. It’s expected that 16.9% of spending this Father’s Day will be in local small businesses. What do you say we try to get that number up?

Ideas for a Local Father’s Day Gift

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for dad check out some of these ideas that can be purchased in your town.

For the Do-it-Yourself Dad

A trip to your local hardware store will get your ideas flowing. From new tools, to organization, to a project the two of you can work on together, your local hardware clerk can help you find just the right gift for your dad and his abilities.

If dad needs a little help in this area, a book on home repair from your local bookstore also makes a great gift (assuming he realizes he needs the help).

For the Sporty Dad

Your local golf course, pro shop, tackle store, or sporting goods place can provide new equipment for any of his hobbies or better yet, purchase the equipment for a hobby the two of you can take on together. If you’re not sure what he’d like, talk to the people at the store. Many of the local store owners offer a wealth of knowledge, from ideas on the sports equipment you’ll need to the best place in town to enjoy it.

For the Gourmet Dad

Take a trip to your local bakery, craft beer brewery, or bistro and pick dad up one of his favorite dishes and/or beverages. Spoil dad on his special day.

For the Guy Who Has It All

If you’re just not sure what to get dad, look into a local gift certificate. There’s a good chance your chamber of commerce offers a gift certificate or local currency program that will allow dad to choose between a number of businesses in town. This is an ideal gift because the money is spent locally and offers much more variety than a gift card to a single store.

Your dad deserves a special moment of thanks and there’s no better way to appreciate him than by passing on the gift of local.
