With Independents Week (honoring indy businesses) coming up in the first week of July, changing up your marketing implementation to reflect the more carefree days of summer is a good idea. While your overall marketing strategy shouldn’t change, how you get the job done should.
The goal remains to reach and engage, to draw in more customers and keep them coming back, but how do you reach a group with fun-in-the-sun on their minds?
Get Mobile
People are on the go in the summer but you can be certain most have their phones on them. While you probably already adjusted your marketing sites and collaterals for Mobilegeddon a few months back, if you didn’t, now’s the time to do it. Every marketing piece you create should be mobile-friendly, not only in responsive design, but in the little design touches that make reading on a phone easier, like using larger font and buttons over inline-text hyperlinks.
More Images, Less Words
There’s a reason schools assign summer reading. Even people who enjoy weighty materials during the rest of the year, pull out the beach reads during the warmer months. The content you create should have a lighter feel as well. Use more images and less long paragraphs. Break your articles up with images. Post more image memes and quotes. Give your audience skimmable materials and they’ll be more likely to read it. During the summer people are on the go, which means they have less time to dedicate to weighty things. Make it quick to digest and they’ll be more apt to take a look at it.
Save Them Money
A good way to keep an audience interested and boost sales is to offer coupons or discounts via social media. Create flash coupon codes that you leave up on your Facebook wall for a specified period of time. When they’re removed, the deal is done. This will get people checking out your wall periodically for the latest coupon code. The increase in traffic will also let Facebook know you’re valuable in your audience’s eyes and they’ll see more of your posts.
Are you changing up your posting practices this summer? If so, tell us about what you’re doing.
