There’s been a big push for kindness these days as people are reeling from COVID and a disruption in their normal lives.

People remember how you make them feel and how you treat them. If you make them feel valued and they have a positive experience with you, they will return.

Here are a few quick ways to make that happen.

6 Ways to Make a Great Impression on Your Customers

  • Always great them with a smile (get smile masks during COVID) even if they’re not looking at you. Give them a warm greeting and give them a suggestion such as what’s on discount, what your specials are, or how your business is organized. Invite them to look around and see you with any questions.
  • If they’re looking at a particular item, give them the story around it.
  • Make sure all of your employees know your mission of making people “feel the love” in your business and what that means. Find a way to measure it. A few years ago, a branch of a Wendy’s measured customer service success in how many customer smiles an operator received on their shift.
  • Wear a funny mask. This lightens the mood and makes people remember you even if they can’t see your smile through your mask. Have temporary masks available in case a customer forgot theirs. Invite them to decorate it with a marker.
  • Be proactive with help. If you see someone struggling with many packages ask to hold them at the desk so they can enjoy their time browsing. If they’re having a hard time making a decision, ask if there’s some direction you might provide or a question you can help with.
  • Empower employees to solve problems. When a customer is aggravated, that can be made worse when they have to wait for a manager to help. Empower your employees to solve problems on their own and your customers will appreciate it.
