Last month we talked about ways to partner with bloggers…but have you considered blogging yourself?

Though not a new trend, blogs are becoming more and more popular for businesses and business people as Google makes “time on page” an important factor in organic results.

LinkedIn has a whole section on their platform dedicated to their Influencers and their blog posts with advice for others about business and life. People like hearing from their local business owners in more ways than just marketing materials, and a monthly or weekly blog post is a great way to engage your customers and local community.

Business Blogging Benefits

  1. It keeps you up-to-date on trends. Part of your responsibilities as a small business owner is to make sure you are keeping yourself well-informed about new trends in your field. As the business owner, being well-informed will make you a leader in your specific field. For your blog audience, you can share new content and ideas they may not have thought about before.
  1. Blogging allows you to deliver original, unique content to your clients. Everyone has a story to tell, and everyone’s story is different. As a business owner, you have been through quite a journey – write it down and share your wisdom with others! You know things that no one else will know; it is important to recognize that as small business owners, we all have been through triumphs, and we have all had difficult situations to work through. You can inspire future entrepreneurs in your community, and a blog is a great way to reach a wide audience. Plus, you can tell your story of a local business and the importance of shopping local.
  1. Delivering a weekly or monthly blog post to clients and fellow business owners is another way to touch base. You don’t always have to have a great marketing campaign or a sale to bring in clients or connect with your fellow community members. The great thing about blogs is that you can connect them on all your Social Media sites to reach an even wider audience. When people get to know you, they’ll want to buy from you.

So, what if you don’t like to write? What if blogging just doesn’t sound appealing at all? And what if you have already tried a blog but found it got pushed to the bottom of your to-do list?

Consider making it a weekly project for an employee, or you can hire someone to write a blog for you.  Blogging forces you to get creative, keeps you in the know about local and national trends in your field, and it is a great way to connect with your customers and stay engaged.

You have a story to tell, so blog about it!
